The Zoo and Quaker Haven

On Friday, we took Dave to the Fort Wayne Zoo (probably our last trip this season).  We are trying to do lots of big kid stuff with him before the baby gets here and we are more limited in our choice of activities.

Dave was the official tour guide of the day.  He is really into maps right now.

"What are you eating goat?"

Playing on the train.

Up close and personal with a kangaroo.  He even got to pet it!

Dad and Dave being crazy in the tent.

34 weeks with the stork.  I have a similar picture with Dave.

34 weeks for baby 2, and 33 months for Dave!  My how they change.

Posing on the zoo sign.

I don't think I have mentioned yet that Dave knows that when we spell z-o-o, that it means zoo now.  So much for trying to surprise him.  After the zoo, we went to Caliente, a fabulous Cuban restaurant in Fort Wayne.  Dave loved the tamales!

Then on Saturday, we took the cottage to Quaker Haven, about an hour north on Lake Dewart.  It's a really cute camp that all the cottages get to go to and fish, swim, eat, etc. for the day.

Guess who brought his fishing (shishing as he says it) pole?

Digging in the sand.

All that hard work warrants a nap!

We had a great day and the boys really enjoyed it.  In fact, they are still tired today!  It was a lot of activity for me as well, I am thankful for a nice, quiet day today.

Visit in Evansville

We took our last trip to Evansville as a family of three last weekend.  Crazy to think about it like that!   I didn't want to push it too close to my due date, so with our weird schedule, this was our last opportunity to visit with everybody.

It was a very nice weekend-we basically relaxed the whole time.  I did a little baby shopping with mom on Friday and then Kyra on Saturday (I'll have to post the cute little brother/little sister onesies I bought), but other than that we were homebodies.

For about an hour, Dave had two fishing poles-my grandpa (and uncle) got him an old-school mickey mouse pole.

Then Uncle Tony broke his spider man pole.  Well, Dave broke it, but Tony finished it off while "fixing it".  Sorry Ton, had to tell the story!

Getting a few pointers from Papaw Dave.

The fellas driving grandpa's cool car.

So, we spent Friday and part of Saturday hanging out with my mom.  She had to leave to go out to L.A. for work Saturday around lunch.  Dave and I headed over to my dad's house, while Josh went to see a former student for lunch.

Dave is obsessed with these goggles and insists on wearing them constantly.

Helping grandma Kyra make cupcakes.

Surfing on the ottoman.  He kept climbing up and getting in the widest stance, and then jumping.  What a strange kid.

That's really it as far as what happened in Evansville.  We ate, talked, and played some games.  And Dave got some good quality time in with his grandparents before the baby gets here.

Cousin Playdate

Josh's mom picked up Sophie on Sunday, so we spent Monday hanging out with her.  We had planned on going to the Fort Wayne Zoo, but the weather was junky.  We ended up going to the petting zoo in Gas City again and then to the mall to play in the kid area there.  Of course I took tons of pictures!

Sophie showing off her goat feeding skills.

Dave loves taunting the baby goats.

Looks like Dave was tattling on the rooster.

Apparently chasing ducks is incredibly entertaining.

They played a lot of tag.  Dave was always "it", but it seemed to work for them.

I think the kids ate most of the cereal instead of feeding it to the animals.

Looks like somebody's been watching the Olympics!

Dave rocking the Urkel look after fixing his own pants.

Both of them were so tired after playing that they had to lay down on the table.

Seems like they are conspiring about something...

As you can see, the kids had a great time.  I don't know about Divana, but I sure was tired after chasing them around most of the afternoon!

Logansport Visit and the Muncie Children's Museum

On Thursday, we went to visit with Josh's grandparents in Logansport.  We stopped by Grandma Bertie's first (after getting lunch at Hap's, a local burger joint...yummy).

Dave likes to make a slide out of the storm cellar door.

Josh and Dave ventured upstairs and found this old hat that his grandpa used to run for judge back in the 80s.  Classic.

And the boys finally got to burn grandma's trash after a summer-long burn ban.

After Bertie's we went to Mary and Dave's.  We mostly played outside since it was a nice day.  After a while we went inside where Dave entertained us with his piano playing.

Think Beethoven played in his underwear as a child?

On Friday, we intended to go to the zoo, but the weather wasn't very cooperative.  So instead we decided to check out the children's museum down in Muncie.  It was definitely worth it, Dave had a blast!  I think it is best suited for kids under 10, but there are a ton of different exhibits and lots of cool hands on stuff.

Playing in the train room.

Love this picture.  Dave was checking the baby's heart (the giant blue thing is my stomach in case you couldn't tell :) )

There was a supermarket set up so the kids could shop and then check out.

Of course, everything cost 2 bucks according to Dave.

And they had a cabin to a semi truck for kids to check out.  A favorite of Dave's.

Hopefully the weather cooperates on Monday, because we will be taking Dave and Sophie to the zoo.  I guess we'll come up with plan b if that doesn't work out!

Catch Up from Last Week

The boys are finally back in school, so I have a little extra time to work on things that have been put on the back burner lately (like the nursery!).  I was slacking a little with posts recently, so here's a look at the last week to get me caught up.

Last Wednesday, Josh's mom took Dave to meet his sister and her kids (Sophie and Caleb) and a YMCA water park thing in Indy.  Dave was a little sick for the festivities, but I heard he was a trooper anyway.  I enjoyed Dave being gone while we were at work-definitely a nice treat!

Picture Divana sent us of Dave a the water park.  Love the hat-it was his when he was very little and has now returned to us for the new baby!

After last week's post about Dave's new job, we went out and bought him his very own weed sprayer.  He is obsessed with it.  It's just filled with water, so he's actually helping the weeds grow, but at least it occupies him for long periods of time.

Showing off his new "toy".

My mom came over from Columbus for the weekend, so she was able to get lots and lots of Dave time while she was here.

Playing with the new tennis set, courtesy of Gamma.

Super cute picture of my mom and Dave.

On Saturday, my mom watched Dave for us while we went to Fort Wayne to do a little shopping.  I updated my maternity wardrobe a little bit, and Josh and Dave got some new shoes.  On the way back to town, we drove through a really violent storm and then noticed a bunch of smoke a little ways off the road.  So we drove down to see what was going on.

An entire barn had caught fire from the lightning.

The owner had just realized what was going on when we pulled up, so I called 911 (first time for me) and Josh tried to convince the guy to stop trying to put out the fire.  Everyone was out of the house, and they were able to get most of their valuables out.  We left shortly after the fire department arrived because the guy had a huge gas tank right next to the barn that we didn't want to be around.

Josh happened to drive back by the next day and this is what it looked like.

So, all in all, we had a very eventful week.  I think we are going to go visit the zoo on Friday since it's supposed to be nice and I'm not going to feel like going much longer!  Also, we're putting the finishing touches on the nursery, so I'll do a post about that here soon.

Dave's New Part-Time Job

This morning Dave and I were hanging out outside when one of the guys who does the yard work around campus came over with his weed eater.  Dave was immediately inspired to do some work of his own, while also stalking the poor guy and asking him a million questions.

Checking to make sure his blower was working.

Scoping out the weeds that needed to go.

Talking shop to the yard work guy (I do know his name, but wasn't sure if he wanted to be broadcast on the internet!)

Happily digging holes in his sand pit.

Now if we can just bottle this energy and save it for when he's a teenager!  One final thing, I posted a video of him saying his latest phrase "Hey mom, I got an idea!" on youtube.  Here it is.
