Florida 2020

It has taken me forever to get this blog post done! We went to Florida the last full week of February and pretty much since we got back we have been out of school and isolating. Hard to believe we were in Florida just two months ago! Here's a video of the boys before we left.

First stop on our trip was a visit with Kyra-she's been down at the Villages in Florida helping her mom and stepdad all year so we hadn't seen her in forever! We met up in Ocala at Silver Springs State Park because Josh had read an article about wild macaques that lived there and had been wanting to check it out for a while!

Kyra and the boys while we were walking around.

It was so beautiful there!

And...there were so many monkeys! It was wild, they were climbing everywhere around us.

After visiting with Kyra we hopped back in the van for another 2 hours or so and then we made it to Lake Village.

Kids wanted to swim immediately so Josh got in-it was not super warm on Saturday when we got there but they have a heated pool!

This year we didn't do our usual schedule of pool in the morning, beach in the afternoon because we were a little dependent on the weather. We ended up having pretty good weather but it was normally cooler in the mornings than we are used to so this year we skipped morning pool time in favor of more beach time. And then sometimes snuck in a swim when we got back.

Kids ready to get to the beach.

Gotta get that family selfie. Kids love these and almost always the sun is in their eyes, ha!

I always make them take a couple pictures then release them for the day.

Playground at the beach got some upgrades since last year!

We showed the parkour cold open from the Office to the kids and they thought it was hilarious and decided to recreate it. Parkour video.

First beach day means we eat lunch at the concession stand. Ike could not wait to try the newest menu addition-fish tacos.

So pumped.

The boys always make friends at the beach and this year was no exception. They met a boy that was 9 I think on the first day and we ended up by them two other days!

Grandma and Grandpa came to the beach one day with us!

Ice cream at the Grove.

Most days we had good weather...one day it was supposed to rain all day but we risked it and it was cloudy but the beach was empty!

Is it a trip to the beach if they don't get buried in the sand?

You can see the rain out in the ocean-cool until it started raining on us for a little bit.

Chef Dave always creating interesting dishes out of sand.

They made a game up-tossing seashells into buckets.

The boys sure love to play in the waves. Video of Ike in the water.

Our last day in Florida (Thursday) was pretty chilly so we decided to skip the beach and head to Myakka State Park.

Beautiful day for a hike! We only saw one alligator this year! Maybe because it was so cool out?

Ike and I climbed to the top of the tower.

When we got back the kids thought they better get one last swim in. I sat comfortably and watched in my sweatshirt and pants! Thank goodness for a heated pool.

Dave had been wanting to try a Popeye's chicken sandwich this whole trip so we planned our first stop on the way home to be at a place that had one.

Finally! And he said it was totally worth the wait, best chicken sandwich he'd ever had. :)

One last picture of the beach.

Gosh that was such a fun time! Really missing it, especially right now when we can't really do much or see anybody. So thankful that Grandma Mary and Grandpa Dave invite us into their home every year (and cook fantastic meals for us and do our laundry! Can't beat that service). We are certainly ready to be back and are already looking forward to next year!

Birthdays and Snow!

Trying to get caught up on posts before we head to Florida tomorrow :)

The kids have had so much fun so far this month-mostly because we've gotten some good snowstorms and they've missed a couple days of school!

I think we had one warm day before the snows hit so we took a walk.

Family snow portrait.

I took Josh to a new restaurant in Warren for his birthday. So good!

Next round of snow!

I love Dave's smile in this one so much.

Snow angels.

They are serious about layers.

Divana and I took the boys and Zac to see Sonic the Hedgehog last Friday. It was so cute!

Divana and the boys.

Now I'm officially caught up and we are so ready to get to Florida!

January

We didn't do much in January so I just condensed it down to one post!

Early in the month we went to a Japanese restaurant in Fort Wayne called Takaoka. It was so good and the kids absolutely loved the show!

Ike and the onion volcano.

Blurry pic of them by the fish tank.

Just Ike.

We helped chaperone when the cottages went to the circus so we took the boys with us.

At the very end of the month we took a trip to Evansville to go to Winter Jam with my dad and visit for a couple of days.

Waiting in the loooooong line!

We got awesome seats.

Ready for the show.

Ike got to go on stage with Zauntee! Here's a video.

We overheard a youth group in front of us talking about getting to go up on stage with him so we asked if Ike could tag along and they said sure! He was so excited and had so much fun.

Great concert! We were so sad Kyra couldn't come but maybe next year!

Helping Gamma make meatloaf.

We went to Shoe Carnival for some new shoes for the boys. First thing Dave did was hit the basketball hoop!

New Year's in Evansville

We popped back down to Evansville for New Year's since the kids and I were on Christmas break. While we were there Josh and I helped mom paint her kitchen (drab green to gray, it looks so good!) and we took the kids on a couple of adventures.

Dave helping Gamma in the kitchen.

Roller skating.

Dave ended up falling and hurting his wrist (he's fine but it was traumatic at the time) so we didn't stay super long. Roller skating is hard work!

This cat has adopted my mom as his owner. Ike absolutely loves him and spent a lot of time outside playing with him!

Just two boys being adorable :)

Fun trip as usual! We love getting down to Evansville to see everybody (although most were not pictured in his blog because I took so few pictures!).

Christmas 2019

We had such a fun and relaxing Christmas this year! Josh had to work so we did presents super duper early in the morning. Then we watched the cottage open up their gifts and ate breakfast all together.  After eating we headed to Marion to watch the new Jumanji movie with the guys. We've been looking forward to it coming out since we loved the first reboot!

Christmas morning in the jammies.

It was another beautiful day out so the kids and the cottage boys played outside when we got back. Can't believe Ike wore shorts on Christmas day!

Working on cracking open his geodes.

Dave hooping.

Paddle ball with Josh.

And that about wrapped up our Christmas celebrations! We went to Evansville over New Year's (I'll post that separately) so here are the rest of our adventures over break.

More walks to the poop ponds.

Lunch at Junk Ditch in Fort Wayne.

Their ice cream selection is out of this world!

The boys each completed an activity that my aunt and family sends every month-Ike gets Atlas Crate and Dave gets Tinker Crate.

Really digging that RC car.
