Day at the pool

We had a great Memorial Day weekend. Even though we worked all weekend, we were able to get off of work early on Sunday (thanks to awesome subs!) and spend some time with Josh's family at his parent's pool.

Dave loves water, but did get a little freaked out at the chilly water temperature. You can also see his diaper in this pic-we use prefolds and thirsties covers for anyone interested in cloth diapering. Love it!

Daddy is hilarious!

Dave and Sophie fought over my shoes. They had a bit of a squabble all day. Sophie stole Dave's hat and then Dave retaliated by pulling her hair.

6 months old!

Dave's half birthday was last Wednesday-he's getting so big! As he gets older, his monthly pictures are getting more and more difficult.

As you can see, it took a couple of tries!

Here's a video of Dave's latest accomplishment...saying dada! (he doesn't understand who he's talking about, but it's still cute) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoLDPEXeKus

Movin and Groovin

This past weekend, Dave and I went to Evansville to visit family while Josh stayed here to organize our endless amount of stuff. While in Evansville, Dave received his first pair of overalls from his great-grandpa Dave.

The Daves.

Since Josh organized everything, we found all kinds of cute outfits that we forgot about. Check out Dave's jumpman outfit. That's right, it includes a zip up vest.

Finally, check out our little guy in action...

He is now lifting himself up on all fours (but hasn't coordinated himself to move while in this position-just kind of rocks)

You can tell he is very concentrated on this task.

Here is a video of him "crawling" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6fNTbgJoL0

The army crawl

Dave has taken on a new form of transportation in the last week. He now army crawls all over the place and gets into everything! Here he is in all his glory.

As you can see, he can't quite get his stomach off the ground, but he does get his legs up underneath and scooches around.

Dave likes to show off his burly chest after done crawling. This is an unfortunate side effect to the army crawl-all of his shirts are beginning to look like this.

This past week, Dave has begun sleeping in his crib full time. Up until then, he had been spending most nights next to our bed in his bassinet. Still swaddled. It was becoming a problem, since he was breaking out of his swaddle every night and rolling around. So, we quit it all cold turkey and Dave has been doing pretty well with it. We had a couple rough nights of several wake-ups, but he slept through last night so I'm pretty hopeful.

A nest of baby birds hatched on our fire escape. Now we have to go in and out through the cottage because momma bird doesn't like us near her babies.

One last picture-Dave loves his new cubs onesie that Josh's aunt and uncle sent him. Thanks Scott and Nancy!

The latest video-Dave slobbering all over himself. He really is going to hate me one day when I show these videos to his friends.

And I had a great first mother's day. Dave got me flowers and we watched the end of Gone with the Wind that I've been trying to watch forever. Perfect!

Chime Frog

Today's blog is dedicated to Dave's favorite toy-Chime Frog. This guy never fails to turn that frown upside down.

Dave likes to study chimey. I think the frog must be telling Dave secrets.

Maybe frog needs to be tortured to give up the secrets...

And here's a video of Dave and chime hanging out and working on sitting up.

In other news, our sleep through the night baby has gone MIA. Now he wakes up every three hours to eat. We are still lucky that he goes right back to sleep. So, we thought maybe that he was hungrier than normal and started him back on solids-this time with oatmeal cereal. He really likes it, but the verdict is still out on whether or not it's working. Josh stayed up with him last night and he's still alseep so I don't know how it went yet.

We have been really busy with work (as usual) and still have a full cottage (which means 16). Thankfully, quite a few get to go home every third weekend, so that gives everybody a break. Summer is quickly approaching-we should have some releases at that point, but it all depends on their behavior.

Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Happy early Mother's Day to all the moms who are reading this-have a great day!

5 months old!

Sophie came to visit! And they are already stealing each other's things...Sophie stole Dave's pacifier right out of his mouth!

She came over while my mom and brother visited with us and (mostly) Dave two weekends ago. We were working, but Tony was able to play ball with the guys and mom watched Dave for me while I was watching the cottage. Awesome. Then last weekend Josh and I worked on a project in the apartment.

Big boy! Sitting up for his 5 month picture.

In other news, we have completely stopped with the rice cereal. After he ate it, he didn't poo for 3 days. No thanks. So we're just going to wait until he 6 months and start him off with veggies.

And a video

19 weeks-Check up with the doctor

Dave had his 4 month check up this week. He is 25.5 inches, 14.4 pounds, and has a 16.25 inch noggin. Percentile-wise he is of average height, skinny, and has an average-sized head. While we were there, our pediatrician told us to try rice cereal. Here are our efforts.

He went cross-eyed at the sight of real food.

And managed to take down about 1/4 of what was fed to him.

I'll take it as a win. However, we're going to give him another week before trying again-he's still doing the newborn tongue thrust.

He officially sits up for periods of about a minute or two. He goes longer if he has something to focus on. Once I find my camcorder I'll upload a video of him sitting up. Cuteness.

Dave has been a little difficult the last week. Waking up during the night-we think he's hitting a growth spurt. Also slightly cranky-probably due to teething. The doctor thought he would cut a tooth in the next two months. Long process!

I love this picture. Such genuine happiness.

Here's the video I promised...sorry it took so long!

18 weeks-First Easter

Dave on Easter Sunday.

We celebrated Dave's first Easter this weekend in Evansville. My grandma Colleen came in from Kansas and brought my cousin Sabrina with her.

Sabrina with a sleeping Dave.

Grandma Colleen and Dave

We spent most of the weekend eating and hanging out.

Dave loves filet mignon! Well, he loves the idea of it. Maybe next year...

We took lots of long walks-the weather was gorgeous. And hopefully everybody got enough Dave time in to last them until our next visit.

We had a great time, and Dave showed everyone all his new tricks. Speaking of which, here is a video of Dave scooching.
And one of him talking.

17 Weeks-Four Months Old!

Sorry for the late post-we went to visit family over Easter so I'm running a little behind.

Anyway, Dave turned 4 months last week.

For comparison! He looks so different.

Dave can officially roll from both his front and his back. So he is getting very mobile! And in even bigger news, he is scooching (sp?). It is only a matter of time before the crawling begins...

16 weeks---Florida Vacay!

This past week we went on our trip to Florida to visit Josh's grandparents. The weather wasn't super cooperative, but at least we got some sun and got to spend tons of time with our little guy and family.

Dave was an excellent flyer. No crying, just a little fussy the day after both flights.

Dave got to hang out with actual Irish people on St. Patrick's Day (this is him with one of their friends in the park). You can tell he totally loves that hat.

He got to experience grass for the first time.

Josh and I went to the beach. It was super cold! Who wants to wear a hoodie and jeans in Florida??

Dave was not a big fan of the beach. It was really windy this day. Go ahead and enlarge this by clicking on it and check out his facial expression.

Dave was a big hit at their church's hawaiian shirt anniversay celebration.

And finally, Dave had lots of dancing lessons from great-grandpa.

All in all, great trip! I've also posted more videos at youtube (surprise right?)

Here are some links

He really loves to make spit bubbles now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAvPJeYewfQ

And Dave officially rolls over now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugTZwq4fH3s

Hope you enjoy!
